Bedford Bibliographer
This ties into my last post. When you log onto dianahacker.com/writersref a student can go to Re: Writing then select The Bedford Bibliographer by Mike Palmquist, a source will appear that will create a work cited page for you. You have to register yourself as a user and create an account. When your account is set up and you want to create a work cited all you have to do is enter your sources in the data base. This makes the process much easier for the students and allows the teacher to track the students sources more easily.
Turnitin.com
Last week in my Comp 2 class we finished a major paper and were asked to turn it into the online database, turnitin.com. I found this a very valuable resource for teachers to use as well as a motivator for students to do there own work and not plagiarize. I was motivated to use less quotes and more paraphrasing. I also concentrated on finding good sources to use and was sure to cite them properly. This resource makes it easier for teachers to catch the cheaters and weed out the plagiarized work.
Texting in the Classroom
2/26/2008
This happens every day in every classroom across America, kid texting. Even though most schools or teachers have rules against cell phones in the classroom students disobey authority and text anyways. Although technology may be helpful to teachers in some aspects, cell phones and the latest advances in communication such as texting has caused headaches and set backs in the classroom. Texing is distracting to other students as well as the teacher. Also students use a differnt language when they text, abreviations and incorrect capitolization used in text messaging carries over into formal writting assignments in the classroom.
